The Picture of Dorian Gray
by Oscar Wilde
About this Book
The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only novel written by the Irish playwright and author Oscar Wilde. First published in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine in 1890, the story revolves around a portrait of the exceptionally handsome Dorian Gray painted by Basil Hallward. Influenced by Lord Henry Wotton's hedonistic worldview, Dorian wishes that his portrait would age and bear the marks of his sins rather than himself. As Gray pursues a life of unchecked decadence and moral corruption, his wish is fulfilled with terrifying consequences.
